Travellers placing priority on holiday deals
Almost half of prospective holidaymakers will be looking for a better deal in 2009 due to the recession, a study shows.
The poll of more than 2,000 travellers also found that more than a third plan to spend the same amount as last year on their holiday.
Thirty one per cent plan to travel to short haul destinations, with 23% planning long haul travel
Winter sun and European beach holidays will be most popular holiday choices.
The survey for Club Med found that more than 80% view their holiday as quite important or the most important luxury for 2009, with around half planning to take one to two holidays.
Although this figure is down on the previous total number of holidays (three–four in 2008), the findings suggest that 2009 will be the year of the big holiday, with consumers keen to ensure that they have a well earned break to look forward to.
However, people are spending more time to find better deals with transparent costs and that represent value for money.
Laurent DeChorivit, head of Club Med UK, said: “Like most years, 2009 will see people looking for hassle-free escapes and for greater value for money.
“However, this year will bring added pressures and with them a greater demand for relaxation and time away.”
