TravelMole announces major Fiji trade campaign

Thursday, 18 Dec, 2006 0

TravelMole has announced that is is launching a major trade promotional campaign aimed at driving business to Fiji.

Endorsed by the Fiji Visitors Bureau and the Fiji Tourism Action Group, the campaign will be launched later today with a Travel Mole Special Fiji News Edition that will be emailed to TravelMole and other partners’ databases throughout Australia and New Zealand.

TravelMole MD John Alwyn-Jones said, “We were very concerned to hear about some of the difficulties and booking profiles being experienced by operators to and in Fiji as a result of the coup and also the amount of misinformation there was in the market place”.

“We therefore decided we had to do our bit to help the Fiji tourism industry recover and we have provided an excellent package, at cost only and are confident that it will do the trick”.

He added, “The programme will run for the remainder of this week and then again for two weeks in January, with daily Fiji Special Editions and Fiji eNews sections and also the first week in January will be “TravelMole Live and on location from Fiji.”  “There will also be advertising on TravelMole running throughout December and January”.

He added, “We also aim to set the record straight with regard to whether Aussies and Kiwis should visit Fiji albeit that there is a Travel Advisory in place, but the reality being that any troubles that did happen were well away from the resort areas.”

He also announced that TravelMole had already secured key partners in the form of Blue Lagoon Cruises, Sonaisali Resort, Castaway Resort and Sheraton Hotels and Resorts Denarau, with others enquiring and coming on board all the time.”

Digby Warren Director of Journeymasters, told the Mole at the Boeing 707 arrival in Sydney on Saturday, “There has been a knee jerk reaction in the trade to Fiji and while people tend to follow DFAT’s advice, what troubles there were were actually confined to Suva and we tell our clients that they should be aware that there have been some troubles and there is an advisory, but Fiji is definitely not on the no go list”.

Adrian Miller, MD of Aerius, which represents Fiji Airlines and Airlines Tonga said, “It is situation normal in Fiji”.

Ursula King told The Mole, “We have had some cancellations, with the worst being a group of 80 cancelling, but the people look at the advice in their insurance and it also becomes hard also to persuade families to go to Fiji right now”.

Michael Reed CEO of Jetset Travelworld said, “We are not seeing major cancellations, but we are seeing major postponements and we also have to remember that now is not a traditional booking time for Fiji.”  He added, “People will follow Government advice, and what we do is point out the advisory to them and if they are happy with it and Fiji then of course will book them there.”

Barbara Whitten of Anywhere Travel said that there had been some cancellations but it is a knee jerk reaction, but people will follow the advisory, but in reality the troubles are a long way from most resorts.”

Look out for the Special TravelMole announcement later today and also for our ongoing exciting news about sending your clients to Fiji and also the opportunity for you to play a role in Fiji’s recovery!
