Travelmood ‘to expand retail presence’
Specialist long haul operator Travelmood plans a network of at least 20 shops around the UK.
According to a report in the Sunday Times the company is to expand its high street presence in a move described as “counter-intuitive” to the general trend away from retail towards online.
Commercial director Chris Lee is quoted as saying the high street expansion would be “suicidal” without being part of a wider strategy.
“It’s about the integration between advertising, online presence, call centres and face-to-face service to customers,” he reportedly said.
Travelmood has shops in London and Dundee but plans others in Guildford, Islington and up to 20 more around the country in two years, it was reported.
Lee reportedly said: “We think we need to take a gamble on the high street. By opening shops you’re encouraging customers to come in and talk to you. We will have to increase sales dramatically for it to work though.”
The company aims to double sales in the next three years on the back of a 25% rise in the past two years.
