SYDNEY – Travelport GDS will offer regular development workshops for travel educators as part of its wider plans for college training and development for 2010.

Announced at this year’s Learning and Development Forums, Travelport will focus on refreshing and up-skilling travel educators so they remain up to date with new product developments and travel technology trends.

Travelport has issued more than 8,000 certificates to travel agents and graduates this year.

In addition to regular Travelport development workshops, next year’s training initiatives will also include a virtual training solution, which presents educators with a convenient way to learn about product updates and enhancements.

Educators can also arrange for Travelport Learning and Development instructors to visit their college by appointment.

More than 50 tourism colleges have signed up to Travelport’s new training package since it launched in January 2009.

The package provides students with complete end-to-end training on the Galileo GDS and CrossCheck Travel Enterprise.

Students also have access to ASK Travelport, an online resource that provides answers to frequently asked questions received by the Travelport Service and Support Centre.

For travel educators themselves, the package offers Train the Trainer workshops which are designed to help them deliver best practice in training to students.

Travelport will continue to promote its Agent of the Future programme which has been running for eight years.

In 2009, Travelport received a record number of applicants for this programme, which enjoys ongoing support from industry partners, such as British Airways, Marriott, Avis, HRG, InPlace Recruitment, Travel Weekly, Octopus Travel, Smart Visit Solutions and Aussie Travel Insurance.
