Travelscene American Express Management Team strengthened.
Australia’s leading independent travel agency network, Travelscene American Express, has announced a restructure of its senior management team following its recent unprecedented growth.
Managing Director Mr Bob Steel announced that two new positions have been created, with former General Manager Mike Thompson becoming Chief Executive Officer and the appointment of Nigel Adams to the new role of Chief Operating Officer.
In announcing the new roles, Managing Director Mr Bob Steel stated that the new management structure was necessary for the company to keep pace with the dynamic travel sector and implement Travelscene’s aggressive growth plans.
“I am confident that these measures will help to build a robust Travelscene American Express and one that will benefit from sustained profitability. This action will enable us to carry out the strategies and investment we need to make in our business over the coming years in order to deliver a more competitive and efficient travel network,” Mr Steel said.
“Mike’s track record as an innovator and leader in travel is unparalleled while Nigel brings extensive travel and financial industry experience to his new role,” Mr Steel said. “Our business has grown enormously over the past few years, with further significant growth opportunities continuing to present themselves. The new management structure ensures we are best able to capitalise on those opportunities.”
Mr Thompson has been General Manager of Travelscene for the past 5 years and was instrumental in negotiating and successfully implementing Travelscene’s alliance with American Express. Immediately prior to his position with Travelscene, he held a variety of roles with American Express including Head of Supplier Relations and Head of Franchise. Mr Thompson, a qualified lawyer, has been an AFTA Board member and Trustee of the Travel Compensation Fund.
Mr Adams’ last role was Director: Business Services for the Travelex Group Australia; where he was responsible for the provision of Retail, Corporate & Wholesale outsourcing of Foreign Exchange Services to financial institutions, travel agents, hotels and retailers, together with the installation of a significant network of ATM’s. He was also responsible for a variety of other financial products.
Prior to that, Mr Adams was the Managing Director of Tourism Investment Corporation – American Express Travel (South Africa) where he was responsible for the management, development and growth across all channels of the American Express travel business in South Africa. Other previous roles included working for American Express Card as well as being Head of Retail Electronic Banking.
