Triton conference special: Dickson – agents are clueless
Many travel agents are clueless about how to sell and miss opportunities when people come into their shops, said former retailer Andrew Dickson.
Dickson owned one of the north west´s biggest agencies, St Andrew´s Travel in Bolton, before selling out last year. Now a consultant, he said he was not impressed with many agencies.
“The current performance on the high street is poor. We saw some examples in the session yesterday (with retail consultant Mike Greene) and to be honest it was quite disappointing.
“You´ve got to get a name for yourself, look good to attract people in and then you´ve got to sell to them.
“So many times when an opportunity arises, agents are p**s poor. That´s a Bolton expression by the way, and it´s true.”
