Triton conference special: McEwan criticised over absent members
Advantage chief and Triton director John McEwan faced some angry questioning about his members’ lack of attendance at the conference.
Only a handful of Advantage agents turned up at the conference in Palma after McEwan told them it was more important to attend their own event.
One agent asked McEwan if he was lost, because he had discouraged his members to attend the Triton conference.
“Now you are saying all for one and one for all, so what’s it about?,†he was asked. “To say I’m disappointed is an understatement.â€
McEwan attempted to justify his stance by saying he had responded to the wishes of members.
“We went out to members to ask their views and the overwhelming response was that they wanted their own conference. Advantage members had the chance to come here but we didn’t want them to miss out on their own conference if they can’t go to both.â€
But Global chief and fellow Triton director Andrew Botterill drew widespread applause from agents when he said one independent conference had to be the goal in the future.
“It makes sense,†he said.
