Trump slump is over: Teletext reports soar in interest in US trips
Teletext says it has seen a soar in interest in holidays to America since Donald Trump lost the US presidential election.
It said in the nine days following the vote the number of families looking for Florida breaks rose 197%.
Miami saw a 508% rise in holiday searches while interest in Orlando was up 154%.
Searches for city breaks were up 490% while there was a 269% rise in interest in Las Vegas.
Teletext MD Wayne Perks said: "All of our US destinations are seeing a lot of interest. The timing of the additional interest seems to correlate to that of the Presidential Election, so we can only assume that Joe Biden, with his more progressive Democratic viewpoints, is being perceived as creating a destination that more welcoming and inclusive for UK holidaymakers."
When Trump took office in January 2017, there was a 17% drop in the number of Brits travelling to the US even though the overall number of outbound trips from the UK was up 9%.
While changes in the exchange rate could be partly to blame since the pound was weaker in 2016 than in 2017, the Office for National Statistics said the number of British visitors was still 20,000 lower than the previous month.
In a recent TravelMole poll, 38% of readers said they thought Democrat Joe Biden would be better for tourism from the UK to the US than outgoing President Donald Trump. A little under 32% said they thought Trump would be better for US tourism.
