TSA: 42 million holiday passenger expected at airports
The Transportation Security Administration is expecting another busy festive holiday season at airports across the nation.
It will start kicking in this week and the TSA estimates 42 million passengers will fly during the December 19 – January 5 holiday period.
That will represent an increase of nearly 4% on 2018.
"I can’t express enough how proud I am of the TSA workforce. Year after year, season after season, they rise to the occasion to get each and every traveler securely to their holiday destination, even with increasing volume," said TSA administrator David Pekoske.
The agency once again is warning travelers to arrive early in order to get through passenger screening in time, and is offering tips to ease the flow.
In addition to electronic devices, the TSA says items like foods and powders may be separated from carry-on bags.
It advises that gifts should remain unwrapped.
Keeping carry-on bags ‘organized’ will help speed up the screening process, and as always, the TSA implores all travelers to leave their firearms at home.
Verified members of TSA PreCheck will continue to enjoy expedited screening lanes and do not need to remove electronics, the 3-1-1 liquids bag, laptops, jackets, or belts.
