TSA passenger screening notches post-pandemic record
The U.S. Transportation Security Administration handled the highest number of air travellers in a day since February 2020.
TSA officers screened 2.49 million air passengers on Sunday.
It was the most since mid-February 2020, when TSA screened almost 2.51 million passengers, but fewer compared to the same day in 2019
On that day 2.61 million traveled.
The previous post-pandemic record was 2,490,000 passengers screened on July 1 this year.
Airlines for America says the overall number of flights is still down about 15% on pre-pandemic levels, with passenger numbers about 7% down.
Demand for air travel ‘remains very strong’ despite high fares, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said last week.
“Business travel continues to recover in line with our expectations as bookings have improved after Labor Day.”
Airfares rose year-over-year by 40% in September.
Fares could top record highs for the busy Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday periods.
