TSA PreCheck program goes global

Wednesday, 07 May, 2013 0

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today expanded its TSA PreCheck expedited screening program to include international flights.

PreCheck passengers traveling from 40 airports on Alaska, American, Delta, United, or US Airways will be allowed to leave on their shoes, jackets, and belts, and leave their laptops in the case.

TSA administrator John S. Pistole said the move underscores the agency’s commitment to finding innovative ways to quickly move travelers it knows and "focus more time on those passengers about whom it knows less."

TSA PreCheck is open to U.S. citizens who are members of certain airline frequent flier programs or of CBP Trusted Traveler programs, including Global Entry, SENTRI and NEXUS. Canadian citizens who are NEXUS members also are eligible.

TSA says more than 9 million passengers have used the program since it launched in 2011.
