TSA reports record single day haul of guns in carry-on bags

Monday, 03 Mar, 2017 0
Thursday last week was a busy day for the men and woman of the Transportation Security Administration.

A new record was set for the number of firearms found in carry-on bags in a single day.

On February 23, TSA agents discovered 21 firearms, beating the previous high of 18 in 2014.

During the week 79 firearms were discovered in carry-on bags at airports around the country plus a ‘realistic’ replica suicide vest and a claymore mine.

However these were not deemed dangerous as they were being transported by an explosives ordnance disposal contractor as training aids.

A live smoke grenade was also confiscated among a trove of the usual dangerous items such as knives, stun guns, replica firearms and ‘many other prohibited items too numerous to note’ the TSA said on its blog.

Last year TSA officers found a record 3,391 firearms at the nation’s airports, up by more than a quarter on 2015.
