TSA screened a record 43.8 million holiday passengers
The Transportation Security Administration screened a record-breaking number of travelers during the year-end holiday period.
It broke the record with 43.8 million passengers and crew screened between December 19 and January 5, 2020.
That is a 4% increase on 2018.
"TSA officers as well as law enforcement and industry partners worked long hours during the holiday period to ensure safe and secure holiday travel. Our checkpoints were fully staffed and many officers worked overtime to screen millions of passengers," said TSA administrator David Pekoske.
The TSA says 99.8% of all passengers across the country waited less than 30 minutes in a checkpoint and 99.1% of TSA PreCheck passengers breezed through screening within 10 minutes.
Friday, December 27 was the busiest day during the holidays with more than 2.6 million travelers screened.
The TSA normally screens about 2.1 million travelers on an average day.
