Tourism Tropical North Queensland has hailed the upcoming additional seat capacity from Singapore Airlines for its Cairns flights.

From 31 March 2024, the airline will replace its Boing 737 flights to Cairns with four times a week widebody Airbus A350 flights.

With 40 business class seats and 263 in economy, it adds up to over 50% more capacity.

It will also be the first time that SIA has used a widebody aircraft for Cairns flights in more than 20 years.

Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef region.

TTNQ CEO Mark Olsen said: The extra 442 inbound Singapore Airlines seats per week would deliver an additional A$26.5million in annual visitor expenditure.”

“This increase in direct capacity from Singapore Airlines will help Tropical North Queensland’s recovery in our key international markets.”

Last month, Cairns International Airport hit a milestone 10,000 passengers for the month, marking the busiest period since February 2020.
