TUESDAY ASH ALERT – No EasyJet flights from UK
EasyJet flights to and from Northern Europe, including the UK, will be cancelled until 17.00 today (Tuesday) due to the ongoing closure of air space in large parts of Europe.
The budget airline had hoped to resume some services earlier.
But "unfortunately based on the latest meteorological forecasts and continuing emission of volcanic ash into the atmosphere this is not possible".
EasyJet said "limited number" of flights will continue to operate in Southern Europe.
Passengers who are booked to travel with easyJet are advised to visit easyJet.com before travelling to the airport.
Responding to the Government’s announcement regarding support for passengers affected by the closure of European airspace, EasyJet chief executive Andy Harrison, said: “This is a major natural disaster which has had a huge impact, affecting over one million passengers on UK airlines alone, with the financial cost to airlines running to hundreds of millions of pounds.
"When the forces of nature act on this scale, only the Government has the resources to respond.
"The Government is responsible for caring for its citizens following a natural disaster and therefore it should help the airlines get people home and cover the costs of care and repatriation.”
