TUI cancels holidays to crisis-hit Sri Lanka
With the Foreign Office advising against leisure travel to Sri Lanka, TUI has scrapped all holidays.
The South Asian is in the midst of its worst economic crisis for decades and has been hit by civil unrest.
The FCDO ‘advises against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka, due to ongoing political and economic instability.’
There have been flashpoints of violence against protesters in Colombo and Kandy and ‘further incidents could take place.’
“We’ve unfortunately had to cancel all holidays to Sri Lanka departing up to and including May 31, 2022,” TUI said.
“We will be proactively contacting all impacted customers in departure date order.”
It doesn’t impact passengers transiting through Colombo Bandaranaike Airport.
It ‘continues to monitor the situation and will advise customers should there be any further updates.’
