TUI UK to move London staff to Luton
TUI UK is to shut Greater London House headquarters in London and move to Luton as part of on-going cost-cutting plans.
New offices have been secured and the building will be ready for staff to move into from next June with the switch due to be completed by November, 2005.
The new Luton base, which is close to in-house airline Britannia’s offices by Luton airport, is currently vacant.
There are almost 900 TUI UK staff based at Greater London House in Camden. Directors and senior managers are in the process of “designing departmental structures,” the company said.
The location of individual roles and departments will be agreed as part of that process.
Employees who agree to re-locate will be offered financial assistance from the company.
TUI UK’s Kingston-upon-Thames office, the base for its specialist tour operations, will remain. But the 600 staff have been advised that the company’s presence will be reduced and some roles will re-located to other offices.
TUI UK also has offices near Coventry, where 900 staff are based.
Managing director Peter Rothwell announced plans to reduce the company’s presence in central London in September as part of a strategy to reduce costs throughout the business.
He said: “We are very conscious that we have a lot of very talented staff based in our London office and we are very keen to retain that expertise.
“However, the central London offices are very expensive. It’s crucial that we have a competitive and lean cost base to ensure we are a business fit for the future.
“We think Luton is a good solution. It is accessible for many people who already travel to Greater London House. For those who live further away, we’ll make sure we offer financial support.”
