A TV production company is looking for independent travel companies to take part in a new Channel 4 programme aimed at helping businesses make more money.

Optomen Television, producers of shows by retail guru Mary Portas, who is attempting to transform the British high street, says it wants both independent travel agents and independent tour operators to volunteers for a business make-over.

It says its new "expert-led series" will show small businesses how to improve profits and build a stronger customer base.

It is looking for independent consumer-facing businesses that are struggling to survive or expand.

The makers also produced the first business advice series from Hilary Devey of Dragon’s Den fame. Its latest programmes on Channel 4 include Gok Cooks Chinese and the new series from Ramsay, Gordon Behind Bars, which attracted over 3m viewers.

As part of the new prime-time programme, business owners will get advice from "one of the UK’s leading consumer-facing business experts" to help give customers "great value for money", said producer Phil McCullough, although he refused to reveal their name.

"We made Mary Queen of Shops and have worked with Hilary Devey and Gordon Ramsay, so it will be someone of that category," he said.
