Twin resorts in Borneo set the pace
Organic fish farming, coral regeneration, grey water usage and kitchen waste management are part of extensive environmental initiatives being undertaken at two eco resorts in Malaysian Borneo.
Ten minutes apart by boat, Gayana Eco Resort and Bunga Raya Island Resort & Spa are located on Gaya Island, Sabah.
Gayana is a 52-overwater villas property with timber structures and open decks.
Bunga Raya villas are set on Pulau Gaya, a coral reef island in the South China Sea, and the largest island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.
The 20-acre resort is accessible by ferry from Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal, in Kota Kinabalu, and also by helicopter.
The Bunga Raya resort includes 48 timbered villas, F&B outlets, MICE facilities, a spa, plus land and sea recreational activities.
Gayana Eco Resort includes a PADI Dive Centre and Marine Ecology Research Centre, which is doing important work in returning the Giant Clam back into the sea and reviving coral reefs.
The Marine Ecology Research Centre is also helping with the preservation of the existing forest structure, treatment of discharged water and energy conservation.
