Two Britons killed in Spanish coach crash
Two British tourists are reported to have been killed in a coach crash on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria.
According to the BBC News website, the coach was carrying Scottish tourists who had arrived on the island just a few hours earlier. As many as 40 people are known to have been injured in the crash, nine of them seriously.
There were 54 passengers, a driver and a tour representative on board the coach, which turned over after brakes failed on a hill near Amadores beach.
The tourists had travelled from Glasgow’s Prestwick airport on Sunday, with the travel company Seguro.
A spokesman for the firm, which is based in Macclesfield, is quoted as saying: “Unfortunately we can confirm that two passengers have died and a number have been seriously injured. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of those involved.”
