Two environmentally friendly hotels with appeal to meeting-goers

Both the Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort in Atlanta and the La Costa Resort and Spa announced multi-million dollar renovations that include environmentally friendly elements that may appeal to meeting-goers.

The Evergreen is just a stone’s throw away from Stone Mountain Park. It’s US$10 million renovation included renewable resource lighting and water fixtures to help reduce the building’s overall cooling and heating demands.

Meeting planners booking a meeting this year by March 31 will earn up to 250,000 Marriott Rewards Bonus points or save up to $3,000 toward a “meeting master account,” according to a news release.

The Evergreen is the third hotel in the world to be designated a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for Business.” It’s only one of 55 businesses in the world to receive such certification, the hotel says.

The facility has 53,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 9,450 square foot ballroom.

The La Costa Resort and Spa’s $50 million makeover includes such conservation-minded features as a recycling program for both guests and staff; refillable amenity dispensers or the smallest practical in recyclable containers; using double-sided printing papers; and others.

La Costa earned an elite certification from Green Seal, making it the 17th such certified hotel in California and the only one in San Diego, according to the hotel.

Meeting planners who choose the hotel before the end of the year receive various perks, including a discounted “Complete Meeting Package CMP” that includes standard AV, and breakfast/breaks/lunches as low as $115 per person. There’s also a three percent rebate on guestroom revenues to the master account and discounted resort charges.
