Two passengers slightly injured after San Francisco ferry crash
The US Coast Guard is investigating after a ferry filled with Thanksgiving holiday travelers slammed into a dock at the San Francisco Ferry Building.
A Golden Gate Ferry spokesperson said two passengers suffered minor injuries that didn’t require hospital treatment.
It caused some panic among diners and shoppers along the San Francisco waterfront.
The ship and dock suffered some damage but the San Francisco Ferry Building itself was unscathed.
From eyewitness accounts on the boat and at the dockside, the MS San Francisco was coming in too fast.
The US Coast Guard is reviewing onboard computers to see how fast the ferry was traveling, and all crew members will be drug tested as per normal post-accident policy.
The captain cited a ‘technical failure’ according to passengers.
"The vessels are inspected frequently by the US Coast Guard so there is a lot of oversight," said Coast gUard investigating officer, Lt. Commander Matthew Zim.
