UK airport delays this weekend: Updated
Strikes planned for the UK’s airports this weekend could still go ahead because one of the unions representing airport workers has voted against the latest pay offer.
The UK’s airport operator BAA says three out of four of the unions has voted in favour of the new package, but the Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU) representing firefighters, maintenance and security staff, has voted against.
BAA says talks are continuing between them and the TGWU to try to avert strikes planned for this Sunday.
Previous strikes, planned for early December were called off while the TGWU considered the offer.
The proposed strike dates are 15 December, 23 December and 2 January. They would affect Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton airports. Strikes could cause disruption leading to delays and cancellations.
