UK airports break passenger number records
Heathrow and Edinburgh airports both hit new highs in terms of passenger numbers last month.
Figures show 6.97 million passengers travelled through Heathrow in July 2014, an increase of 0.5% on July 2013 and Heathrow’s busiest ever month.
July 27 was Heathrow’s record busiest day, with 239,928 passengers passing through the terminals
Edinburgh airport also broke all previous records for passenger numbers last month with 1.1 million people travelling through the terminal, an increase of 1.8% on the same period in 2013.
International passenger numbers increased by 4% on the previous year, at 661,220 passengers, while domestic passenger numbers decreased slightly, at 443,044 people.
The figures come as Airports Council International (ACI) revealed the global aviation industry saw passenger numbers grow by 4.7% in the first six months of 2014.
Europe saw the highest growth rate in passenger traffic in June, up 6.1% since passenger numbers were significantly depressed in 2013 due to the Euro area crisis.
