UK holidays to be showcased in new exhibition
UK Consumer Shows is to launch its first ever domestic holidays exhibition following evidence that Britons are spending more money than ever before on holidays at home.
Figures released from VisitBritain show that expenditure by tourists in the UK reached a record £125bn in 2011, £16bn more than the previous highest spend.
It is estimated that UK residents took around 119m trips of one night or more within the UK last year, resulting in a total of 373m nights away from home.
"With very little change to the economic climate, more and more people are planning holidays at home than ever before, be it for one or two days, a weekend or longer," said UK Consumer Shows.
Its free admission Holidays at Home show will be held at Manchester Central (G-Mex) on February 16 to 17 next year covering the entire spectrum of what the UK has to offer including camping and caravanning, holiday homes and parks, theme parks and outdoor pursuits.
