UK passengers facing flight delays this morning
Travellers are facing delays on flights out of the UK this morning following further problems at the new Swanwick air traffic control centre.
Heathrow and Gatwick are the two airports with the biggest delays, but all passengers in the UK are being advised to phone before setting off for the airport.
Swanwick is currently operating at the nighttime capacity of 50% due to a problem with its workstations. A spokesman told TravelMole that engineers were hopeful this would gradually increase throughout the morning, with the system operating normally by lunchtime.
It is believed that a software upgrade which took place last night could have caused the malfunction. The spokesman said: “It is not clear what has caused the problem. The system was operating fine until 6.30 this morning when we tried to switch on the rest of the workstations. Whether it was caused by the software upgrade or something else we simply don’t know at the moment.”
