Ultimate travel bucket list – day trip to Antarctica
In collaboration with Channel 7’s Telethon and radio station mix94.5, Western Australians have the opportunity to take a bucket list-worthy day trip to the South Pole.
The Antarctica flight departs from Perth on Australia Day, January 26 2015 for the third consecutive year for a unique birds-eye perspective of the white continent.
Part of the proceeds of every ticket bought on the Australia Day flight from Perth will be donated to the Telethon campaign to help improve the lives of children and young people throughout Western Australia.
Operator Antartica Flights is chartering a Qantas 747, taking about four hours to reach Antarctica, with the first icebergs in view around three hours after take-off.
"How many people can return to work and when asked what they did on Australia Day say: ‘I went down to Antarctica,’" said Bas Bosschieter, general manager of Antarctica Flights.
"This flight will enable people to achieve what is an often unobtainable lifelong dream, of seeing Antarctica."
Passengers will be joined onboard by Antarctic experts who have spent time at Antarctica scientific research bases to give talks on its unique environment and history, while video screening and live radio link ups with the scientists currently at research bases will give an insight into daily life on Antarctica.
Prices start at $1,199 for a seat in Economy Class Centre, up to $7,999 for ‘Ice Class,’ and no passport is required for the journey.
More information can be found at the Antarctica Flights website.
