United Airlines adding more Guam-Japan summer flights

United Airlines plans to strengthen its market share in Guam with added summer frequencies to Japan.

United, which is now the only American carrier serving the US Pacific territory, will add 20 flights to meet peak season demand in Japan.

There will be an extra 13 flights out of Tokyo Narita and seven from Osaka Kansai during August.

"We are pleased to see that the demand for summer travel is increasing to Guam. Our team continuously monitors the market for opportunities to add flights," said Sam Shinohara, United’s operations MD for Asia Pacific.

The additional flights will be operated by B737-700s carrying 120 passengers and 166-seat B737-800s.

Nearly 200,000 seats a year were withdrawn from the Guam market earlier this year when United reduced capacity and Delta Air Lines pulled out altogether.

This is great news for Guam. This will definitely have a positive effect on our economy," said Guam Visitors Bureau president Nate Denight.
