United Airlines adds more Florida flights

Wednesday, 13 Aug, 2020 0

United Airlines is betting on a tourism revival in the Sunshine State this winter.

It is launching a big expansion in point-to-point flights to Florida.

From November United will start offering nonstop flights from Boston, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, New York/LaGuardia, Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio to four Florida destinations.

These are Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa.

It is ‘the largest expansion of point-to-point, non-hub flying and reflects our data driven approach to add capacity where customers are telling us they want to go,’ said Ankit Gupta, United’s Vice President of Domestic Network Planning.

It amounts to as many as 28 flights a day to Florida, although United says it can easily adjust schedules.

The state has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases in the nation at more than half a million.

"We will adjust our plans" Gupta said if the Covid situation doesn’t show signs of stabilizing come winter.

United says there is evidence of pent-up demand for Florida vacations as people forego overseas trips.
