United Airlines hails record Q4 profit
United Airlines just reported its full-year financials, revealing pre-tax earnings of $4.2 billion.
This includes a record fourth quarter profit.
In the fourth quarter, premium revenue was up 10%, while corporate revenue was up 7%.
It said revenue from Basic Economy also grew 20% year-over-year.
Looking ahead to 2025 United sees strong demand in the first quarter.
For the full year, the company operated the most flights and carried the most customers in its history.
“United had a unique strategy coming out of Covid and our people have delivered for customers leading to a structurally and permanently changed industry,” said United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby.
“2024 was a strong year across the board for United as we’ve become the leading global airline.”
Overall, full year net income was $3.1 billion and it ended the fiscal year with available liquidity2 of $17.4 billion.
Total debt and other financial liabilities were $28.7 billion at year end.
United set a record for most customers carried in a year at nearly 174 million with an average of 4,340 daily flights.
Also, United announced the largest international expansion in its history, bringing service to nine new international destinations for summer 2025, eight of which are not served by any other US carrier.
These are Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Nuuk, Greenland; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Faro, Portugal; Madeira Island, Portugal; Puerto Escondido, Mexico; and Dakar, Senegal.
It surpassed 300 new and retrofit aircraft in 2024 featuring the signature interior with bigger overhead bins, seatback screens at every seat and Bluetooth connectivity.
