United and USAirways next to merge?

Tuesday, 29 Apr, 2008 0

Merger talks between United Airlines and USAirways have reportedly intensified.

This follows Continental Airlines walking away from a tie-up with United, saying it does not wish to merge at present.

Reports today suggested that United has now entered into detailed discussions with USAirways over some form of combination.

United chairman Glenn Tilton said in the wake of the Continental announcement that consolidation was underway and that “ensuring you have the right partner is everything”.

The merry-go-round of US airline merger speculation has been sparked by Delta agreeing to merge with Northwest.
