United forecasts first-quarter loss
United Airlines posted a $3.3 billion profit for 2023, while it is cautious on its immediate future due to the ongoing grounding of some Boeing Max jets.
It expects the issue to impact its first quarter 2014 earnings.
“Our plans really came together in 2023, and I want to thank the United team for all of the hard work,” said United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby.
“Despite unpredictable headwinds, we delivered on our ambitious EPS target that few thought possible.”
“Looking ahead, we expect these trends to continue and United is incredibly well positioned to capitalize.”
However, higher costs impacted its fourth quarter earnings, down to $600 million.
The company’s employee profit share was worth $681 million and it marked the graduation of United Aviate Academy’s inaugural class of pilots during the year.
The airline also opened five new United Club locations across three hubs, including the largest yet – a 35,000 sq. ft. club in Denver.
