United launch extra Dominican Republic flights
United Airlines has announced plans to run services to Santiago, Dominican Republic in the summer from its Newark Liberty hub.
The carrier will operate daily flights year-round on Boeing 737-900 aircraft and will be timed to connect with services from Washington DC and Chicago.
The flights will depart Newark at 9:00 am daily with the return Santiago-Newark flight scheduled to take off at 1:50 pm.
Flights will become available for sale once the necessary government approval is granted.
Santiago is the second largest city in the country and its Cibao International Airport serves Caribbean destinations such as Cuba and Puerto Rico as well as other US cities.
United currently serves Dominican Republic destinations with seasonal services from Newark to Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and Puerto Plata, and from Chicago and Washington DC to Punta Cana.
Last month JetBlue announced a similar Newark-Santiago non-stop service which is due to begin flying in May, with fares starting at $169 one way.
