United offering free Covid tests for transatlantic flights

Thursday, 30 Oct, 2020 0

United Airlines is launching a free of charge transatlantic Covid-19 testing pilot program.

From 16 November through 11 December, the airline will provide free rapid tests for every passenger over two years old.

It is available on select flights from Newark Liberty International to London Heathrow.

It will guarantee everyone onboard the flights over two years old will be tested, including flight crew.

Passengers who do not wish to be tested will be accommodated on other flights.

"Through this pilot program, we will guarantee that everyone on board has tested negative for Covid-19, adding another element to our layered approach to safety," the airline said.

"United will continue to lead on testing, while at the same time exploring new solutions that contribute to the safest travel experience possible."

United is working with Premise Health, which will conduct the tests for flights departing Newark at 19:15 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

An appointment is mandatory and United advises customers to schedule tests at least three hours before their flight.

The on-site testing facility is located at the Newark United Club.

"We believe the ability to provide fast, same-day Covid-19 testing will play a vital role in safely reopening travel around the world and navigating quarantines and travel restrictions," said United Chief Customer Officer Toby Enqvist.
