United plans seasonal flights from Newark to Newcastle, UK
United Airlines is introducing seasonal nonstop flights between the city of Newcastle in northern England and its New York area hub, Newark from May 2015.
The service, which will depart daily except Wednesdays and Thursdays, is due to run between May 23 and September 7.
This will be the first ever regular scheduled trans-Atlantic flights from the city
The flights will be operated by Boeing 757-200 aircraft with a total of 169 seats – 16 flat-bed seats in United BusinessFirst and 153 in United Economy, including 45 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space.
The airline says they have been conveniently timed to connect at New York/Newark with an extensive network of service to destinations throughout the Americas.
"It’s a fantastic day for everyone associated with the airport," said Newcastle Airport CEO Dave Laws.
It’s been a dream for me to get this route and we’ve had a great team working on this for the past six years."
