United rehires staff as volumes increase
United Airlines has re-employed 600 flight attendants with a further 850 likely to return by the end of the year as passenger volumes increase, the airline is reported to have said.
According to the Financial Times, the initial 600 will start on August 9 with the remainder expected back at work by the end of November.
The flight attendants were laid off in the wake of September 11.
United is hoping to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the autumn.
