United to shed 1,500 jobs
United Airlines is closing three reservation centres in a cost-cutting measure that will lead to the loss of 1,500 jobs.
The new measures are expected to save around £70 million per year.
Reservations centres in San Francisco, Long Beach, California and Indianapolis will close at the beginning of next year. The airline said it had a 25% year-on-year drop in the number of calls received.
Meanwhile, several services in Oregon, Iowa and New York will convert to United Express.
More changes are expected soon. The airline said it would announce additional adjustments to its schedule and staffing levels.
