Universal’s Volcano Bay waterpark to close two days a week
Universal’s Volcano Bay waterpark is reducing its operational hours by closing two days a week.
From 8 September, Volcano Bay will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the end of 2020.
Universal made the decision based on ‘operational needs and fall travel trends.’
Theme parks reopened in June with limited capacity and Universal has temporarily closed several rides and attractions at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
It also announced last week it would close two hotels due to weak demand for hotel stays.
Universal Orlando has seen a slight uptick in attendance recently due to a Florida resident ticket offer, but out of state visitation to Florida’s theme parks is well down overall while international inbound tourism has basically collapsed.
Volcano Bay was the number three most-visited water park in the country last year with about 1.8 million visitors.
