Unruly stag party faces huge fines after forcing a plane to divert
An unruly stag party which caused a Ryanair flight to be diverted face fines of £20,000 each.
The six men from Southampton were on a flight from Luton to Bratislava in Slovakia on Friday, when they allegedly became aggressive when refused more alcohol.
The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Berlin after a fight broke out.
Six of the 12-strong group, aged between 25 and 28, were arrested and could now face a fine of £19,700 each under the Aviation Security Act, German officials told the Daily Mail.
They have been released but will return to Germany at a later date for a court appearance.
A fellow passenger told the Mail: "The fact that they were allowed to board at all after making a huge nuisance of themselves in the departure hall at Luton and being so drunk that some were struggling to stand, was an even bigger disgrace."
A Ryanair spokesman said: "This flight from London Luton to Bratislava (26 Feb) diverted to Berlin after a number of passengers became disruptive in-flight.
"The aircraft landed normally and police removed and detained these individuals at Berlin Schonefeld Airport.
"We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police."
