Unusual stowaway found on plane in US
Passengers on a flight to the US were seemingly unaware that a baby squirrel had managed to creep onto the aircraft and hitch a ride in the cabin.
The critter was spotted by flight crew after passengers had departed from the plane at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
A Customs and Border Protection agricultural specialist was called in to the cage the squirrel, which apparently boarded the aircraft in Costa Rica.
"During the course of performing our mission, we may encounter unusual opportunities to aid in the capture of seemingly harmless animals that have hitchhiked into the country," said Port Director Charles Perez.
"While there is a cute factor here, realistically, we understand that animals must be handled carefully."
The furry stowaway was quarantined and then turned over to the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
