UPDATED: Heathrow re-opens after BA plane makes emergency landing
Heathrow is warning of delays throughout the rest of the day (Friday) after a British Airways flight was forced to make an emergency landing at the airport this morning.
Both runways were closed earlier today after BA flight BA762 from Heathrow to Oslo had to return back to Heathrow shortly after take-off due to an "engine technical fault".
BA said all 75 passengers and five crew are safe and well after being evacuated from the Airbus A319 using emergency slides.
The airline said it has begun a full investigation into the incident and is working with the Air Accident Investigation Bureau to establish the cause.
Reports on Sky News say the plane was seen flying over central London "on fire" with smoke billowing out of its right engine.
There is speculation that the plane ran into a flock of birds, but this has not been confirmed.
In its latest statement, Heathrow said it is now fully operational and the airport is returning to normal.
"There may be some disruption throughout the day and passengers are advised to check the flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport," it said.
