Upgrade for Melbourne Airport
A $10 million enhancement program is to be carried out on Melbourne Airport’s long term car parking facilities.
The program includes 900 new parking spaces and the introduction of a fleet of nine purpose-designed buses, capable of carrying 50 people at a time.
The buses will commence operations in October. They will include improved on-board luggage storage and will provide even faster pick up times for users of the long term car park.
“Our research has shown us that the key requirement for users was to be able to park within the airport precinct itself – and not offsite – enabling them to get to the terminal faster,” Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Barlow said.
“We are investing $10 million to meet these public needs, and also continue to meet ongoing demand of our parking facilities from our consistent passenger growth.”
The enhancement program also include the construction of seven new ‘super shelters’ with climate-controlled indoor facilities and GPS-enabled passenger information displays that will provide live information about the expected arrival time of buses
