Uranium found on plane at Heathrow
A ‘radioactive’ flight at Heathrow sparked a major security alert.
Counter Terrorism Command officers responded after an item contaminated with uranium was flown in the cargo hold of a plane.
Some media reported it originated from Pakistan.
The ‘very small sample’ was found in a shipment of scrap metal.
Specialist scanners detected the substance as it was offloaded.
Met Police said: “We can confirm a very small amount of contaminated material was identified incoming to the UK.”
“So far, it does not appear to be linked to any direct threat.”
