US-Canada border closed to all tourism
The U.S. and Canada say they have agreed to close their borders to tourism to help curb the coronavirus spread.
Canada had earlier closed it borders in a global ban on travelers but exempted Americans.
Now, the two countries will ban all non-essential traffic but will allow the flow of trade to continue with cargo shipments across the border.
"We will be, by mutual consent, temporarily closing our Northern Border with Canada to non-essential traffic. Trade will not be affected," President Trump tweeted.
It effectively blocks all tourism between the countries and will remain in place indefinitely, although Trump said he was hopeful it would not extend beyond 30 days.
Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said ‘essential travel’ and supply chains will be maintained.
"These supply chains ensure that food, fuel and life-saving medicines reach people on both sides of the border."
