US, Canada in talks to reopen border
Senior officials from Canada and the US have begun talks to open their shared border. The world’s longest international border has been closed to leisure travel for more than a year. Among the reported discussions is a phased reopening possibly allowing access first for vaccinated travelers.
Neither government has confirmed any progress has been made in reopening the border. Canada lags the US by some way in vaccination rates. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said most Canadians will be fully vaccinated by around September.
One obstacle is the divergent views on vaccine passports. Canada is open to them but the US is not.
