US flight delays overall are up
When it came to on-time air performance, Hawaiian was the best, while Atlantic Southeast was the worst.
Those were the latest two-month results of on-time airline performance in figures released by the US Department of Transportation.
The 20 carriers reporting on-time performance recorded an overall arrival rate of 72.8%, which was down from last year’s 75.2%.
The top five on-time carriers were Hawaiian (84.6%), Aloha (85.5), Sky West (80.1), Frontier (79.4) and Northwest (77.8).
The five worst included Atlantic Southeast Airlines (36.5% of flights were late), followed by ATA (36.3), Mesa (33.3), Continental affiliate ExpressJet (32.6) and Continental (32.2).
Atlantic Southeast is owned by Sky West and flies regional flights for Delta.
Major causes of delays included aviation system delays, late-arriving aircraft and maintenance problems.
