US imposes travel ban for a dozen countries

Thursday, 05 Jun, 2025 0

The Trump Administration has announced a travel ban for nationals of a dozen countries.

The government is citing national security concerns.

Citizens of Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

Also, nationals of seven other countries have restrictions on entry.

These are Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.

“I must act to protect the national security and national interest of the United States and its people. I remain committed to engaging with those countries willing to cooperate to improve information-sharing and identity-management procedures,” Trump said in the executive order.

The ban takes effect on Monday.

There are some exceptions such as current green card holders, dual citizens and athletes playing in the World Cup next year and the 2028 Olympics if the ban extends that long.
