US travel to Canada on the rise
More Americans are heading north for vacations and short trips in Canada.
In fact during first six months of the year more US residents came to Canada than at any other comparable time in the past 12 years.
Statistics Canada says more than 12.3 million crossed the border, which is a rise of 2.2% on 2018.
About two-thirds of Americans spend at least one night in Canada, Statistics Canada said.
However the US-Canadian dollar exchange rate is not helping tourism traffic in the opposite direction.
There was a decline in Canadians visiting the US from May to July.
In June 2019, there were nearly 3.6 million trips to the U.S, which is down nearly 3%.
That is in contrast with near-record levels of Canadian travelers taking overseas vacations to international destinations outside the US.
