US travelers not afraid of bird flu

Friday, 17 Apr, 2006 0

There’s a high awareness of avian flu but it is not preventing Americans from traveling, according to a new AAA report.

The report found that avian flu is “not a major factor in current planning,” said AAA CEO Robert Darbelnet.

In the AAA survey of more than 1,000 people, 24% said they would cut back on US vacation plans if a human case of flu were reported in their state.

But compared to rising gas prices and terrorism, avian flu took a back seat.

More than a third of respondents said they would take fewer vacations over the next year if there was another terrorist attack in the US, while 43% said a hike of 50 cents in gas prices would deter their travel.
