USAirways slashes commission
USAirways has become the latest carrier to cut commission payments to agents in the UK and Ireland.
The airline’s standard base commission will drop from seven to one per cent from 1 July. For US domestic flights, zero commission will apply from the same date.
The carrier refused to comment any further on the decision, but the move will come as little surprise to agents who have seen all major scheduled airlines cut commissions in the past year.
USAirways’ commission cut comes just days after the airline confirmed plans to join the Star Alliance on 4 May.
The airline has been through a turbulent period, including filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and losing of its chief executive David Siegal last week after just two years in charge. A plan for restructuring the USAirways is expected to be presented to unions next week.
